The series of artworks “My Friend Kazimierz” refers directly to the work of Kazimir Malevich. What is characteristic of the artworks in this series is a kind of quotation of Malevich and his suprematism. On the surface, these quotations look like quite literal borrowings – similar composition, dynamics of geometric figures or use of local colors and limited palette – however, upon deeper reflection, these are autonomous creations that are part of new pictorial arrangements. The protagonists of most of the performances are suprematist paintings arranged in various configurations, so that they give the impression of smaller paintings placed on the plane of the canvas. The composition of these artworks alludes to the “picture-in-picture” motif known from art history.
