The series of artworks "My Friend Kazimierz" refers directly to the work of Kazimir Malevich. What is characteristic of the artworks in this series is a kind of quotation of Malevich and his suprematism. On the surface, these quotations look like quite literal borrowings - similar composition, dynamics of geometric figures or use of local colors and limited palette - however, upon deeper reflection, these are autonomous creations that are part of new pictorial arrangements. The protagonists of most of the performances are suprematist paintings arranged in various configurations, so that they give the impression of smaller paintings placed on the plane of the canvas. The composition of these artworks alludes to the "picture-in-picture" motif known from art history.
Levkas (gesso) - (from the Greek word leukos, meaning white), a glue and chalk primer used in panel painting and gilding. It is applied hot on the icon, usually in about twelve layers. One layer for one day. The prayer of the ritual then directs its attention to the Apostles (one for each layer). It recalls their deeds and asks for intercession.
Oil paints - a type of slow-drying paint of paste or liquid consistency in which the pigment particles are suspended in a carrier, oil, usually vegetable. Linseed oil, walnut oil, poppy oil and safflower oil are usually used for oil paints. In order to accelerate the drying of oil paints, siccatives are added to them.
